Chrome Mining and Processing
Chrome mining can be processed by both open pit quarrying method or underground mining method according to chromite ore deposit location and properties. SBM provide production plant for chrome mining, overall capacity is approximately 5.8Mt/y of run-of-mine ore.
Underground deposit is mainly processed on room-and-pillar mining, typically with low-angle adits connecting to a horizontal access level. Thin seams limit the scope for mechanisation and blasting relies on drilling with hand-held pneumatic jackleg units. The ore is mined either up-dip or down-dip in rooms approximately 20m wide, with the roof supported by ore pillars. The open cut mine uses 8t-capacity loading shovels and 40t-capacity trucks.
Production Plant for Chrome Mining
Ore extracted from the mine with a grade of 40% chromium oxide or greater is suitable for processing directly in the off-site ferrochrome production facility. Ore with a lower grade must be processed to increase its chromite content. Ore that is not suitable to ship directly to the ferrochrome production facility will be processed at the mine site to produce concentrate.
