silica sand processing operation

We provides extraction solutions to meet the strict iron, chromite and titanium level requirements of glass sands specification, and the strict API specifications for frac sands. A full range of gravity and classification devices including, spirals and the high density separator, are useful for pre-concentration and ultimate sizing of the sands to meet product requirements.

SBM is world leading silica sand extraction equipment supplier and manufacturer. Our drum magnetic separation machine are excellent for purification, i.e. removing the small quantities of contaminate minerals found in silica sands and feldspar. The processes are rounded out with advanced dewatering systems of thickeners, clarifiers and filters to minimize drying costs and ensure proper tailings handling.

Silica Sand Extraction Equipment

The raw materials for processing silica sand generally are extracted from open pits of naturally occurring quartz-rich sand and sandstone. Extraction methods depend primarily on the degree of cementation of the rock. In some deposits, blasting is required to loosen the material prior to processing.

Loosely consolidated sands can be easily extracted. Worked thicknesses are up to 15 m for sandstone deposits. Some selective extraction is required in the Passage Formation sandstones to avoid contaminated sandstone and mudstone/siltstone beds.

Silica Sand Processing Plant

In silica sand processing plant, the mined rock is transported to the processing site and stockpiled. The material then is crushed. According to the degree of cementation, several stages of crushing may be required to produce the desired size reduction, such as primary crushing, secondary crushing and tertiary crushings. Gyratory crushers, jaw crushers, roll crushers, and cone crushers are used for primary and secondary crushing.

After crushing, the size of the material is further reduced to 50 micrometers or smaller by grinding, using ball mill, ultrafine mills, hammer mills. The ground material then is classified by wet screening plant, dry screening machine, air classification machine, and dried by drying plant.
